From the lowlands of Chitwan to the heights of the Himalayas, Nepal's geography is as unique as its population, which comprises over 120 ethnic groups. Climate change has led to the emergence of dengue fever in regions that were previously non-endemic placing the resource poor nation at great risk. A dengue outbreak in Kathmandu is now a very real possibility. In an effort to combat the disease, research is being conducted by a team made up of both western and Nepali scientists. The joint effort has led to successful sample collection and offers hope that an answer can be found. These photos document a research trip taken by a team from La Jolla Institute for Immunology.
