Capacity building is the process by which individuals and organizations obtain, improve, and retain the skills, knowledge, tools, equipment and other resources needed to work competently. The Shresta Lab at La Jolla Institute for Immunology in San Diego, California has partnered with Tribhuvan University in Kathmanandu, Nepal in the study of emerging diseases such as dengue, Zika and chikunguyna. The supplies and knowledge that the LJI team bring with them to Tribhuvan help develop local research infrastructure which in turn empowers Nepali's to tackle the health crises facing their country. This joint research effort accelerates the work to find answers to these emerging diseases.
